FLORIDA HOSPITAL EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Health Care for the Way Florida Works

Most highly qualified professionals are cognizant of the true value of employee benefits and are often seeking employers who offer a comprehensive benefits plan. Likewise, employers who offer such a plan, which usually includes an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), may reasonably expect to attract and retain more employees than companies who do not offer such benefits.

Although an EAP may seem attractive to both the employer and employee, it certainly should not be viewed as just another employee benefit. Wellorganized programs that provide the proper level of support have been proven to be effective in dealing with the many issues that decrease productivity and decrease profitability from a business.

An increase in sick leave, absenteeism, healthcare claims, work-related injuries, and employee turnover are all very good indicators that an employer should consider an EAP. Employee Assistance Programs are also available to assist an employer who must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance and Drug-free Workplace (DFWP) requirements.

Employers who implement an EAP are better able to retain employees, decrease absenteeism and maintain productivity. They may also realize the payback involved in a reduction in the utilization of health benefits and the cost of mental health services. Employees with traditional health benefits and no EAP are more likely to seek treatment at a much higher level of distress than employees who have access to an EAP. EAP allows for early identification and intervention; therefore, reducing the overall cost of treatment. Employee Assistance Programs also bring the ability to monitor compliance with treatment; therefore ensuring improved outcomes.

The Florida Hospital Employee Assistance Program, appreciates that each customer is unique and provides personalized services to accommodate his or her needs. A variety of seminars and workshops addressing specific personal or work-related issues are offered. EAP counselors provide support for a wide range of topics, including but not limited to, emotional, financial, substance abuse, and legal issues.

We recognize the importance of education on the benefits of EAP and pride ourselves in our on-site employee and supervisory training programs. Orientation sessions are conducted for all existing employees upon implementation of the program and additional sessions are held annually in an effort to remind employees of the benefit.

Training the supervisors on how to identify issues and make proper referrals into the program is of equal importance and is also offered upon implementation of the program and on an annual basis. Counselors are available on an ongoing basis to consult with supervisors regarding specific situations and assist them in determining whether EAP intervention would be appropriate.

The Florida Hospital Employee Assistance Program, wants to be certain that each individual and their supervisors feel comfortable in asking for help when help is needed most.
