Since 1973, Florida Hospital Altamonte has been providing quality healthcare to the residents of Seminole, north Orange, East Lake and West Volusia Counties. Each year, this state-of-the-art facility treats approximately 14,000 inpatients, 97,000 outpatients, 43,000 emergency patients, and performs over 10,000 surgical procedures, making it the largest and most comprehensive hospital in Seminole county.

Florida Hospital Cancer Institute - Altamonte
Cancer services available at Florida Hospital Altamonte include:
  • Radiation oncology featuring Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), external beam radiation therapy, High Dose Rate (HDR) Afterloading, prostate seed implants, radiopharmaceuticals and 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy
  • Medical oncology combining the most advanced treatments with the most caring and qualified physicians
  • Dedicated inpatient unit with 24 oncology beds and certified oncology nurses
  • Patient support and education including social work and support groups
  • Coordinated care programs for melanoma, breast, lung and colorectal cancer
  • Access to state-of-the-art diagnostic services including Positron Emission Tomography - Computed Tomography (PET-CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Cardiac & Neurodiagnostic Services

Florida Hospital Altamonte offers sophisticated diagnostic and treatment procedures for cardiac and neurological patients. The cardiac and neurodiagnostic services are supported by Florida Hospital Altamonte's critical care nursing team and high-tech monitoring equipment, as well as the support of Florida Hospital's nationally recognized cardiac program. These services are available on an inpatient and outpatient basis:

  • Arteriography and cardiac catheterization for visualizing areas of narrowing or blockage in the arteries

  • Echocardiography (ECHO) and Cardiac imaging (First Pass and SPECT Thallium studies) for visualizing the heart

  • Electromyography (EMG) for measuring the electrical currents in the muscles

  • Electrocardiography (EKG) and Holter Monitoring to evaluate heart rhythm

  • Stress Testing for detecting heart disease

  • Peripheral vessel balloon angioplasty for unclogging blocked arteries

  • Emergency cardiac services, including access to Florida Hospital's medical transport helicopter, Florida Flight 1

  • Electroencephalography (EEG) for measuring brain wave activity

  • Sleep Disorder Testing

Emergency Services

Florida Hospital Altamonte has a Level II Emergency Department providing emergency services to communities in Orange and Seminole Counties 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The patient care areas are designed and specially equipped to care for all medical and surgical emergencies for patients of all ages.

  • For patients needing major trauma and specialized services, the Florida Hospital Altamonte's Emergency Department is integrated with the regional Emergency Medical Services System. This provides transportation for patients requiring specialized care or admission.

  • For non-emergency conditions, the hospital offers an Express Care Department located near the main Emergency Department, it is designed to manage non-emergent conditions. Express Care is open seven days a week from 12noon-10pm

Endoscopy Services

Florida Hospital Altamonte offers complete inpatient and outpatient endoscopy services in their newly renovated Endoscopy Center - with five procedure rooms, 17 admit/recovery beds and 4 holding/consultation rooms.

  • New and improved Endoscopes have been added, which include the 160 Series with video bronchoscopes.

  • The department includes a fluoroscopy room in which transbronchs, ERCP placement of biliary stents, esophageal stents and some dilatations are performed.

  • They also work with the Cancer Center when placing catheters for high dose radiation therapy-for the treatment of lung cancer.

    The Endoscopy Center offers the following interventions:

  • Upper GI (gastrointestinal) tract endoscopy for examining organs in the upper GI tract

  • Lower GI tract endoscopy for examining the colon or rectum, and sigmoid colon

  • Bronchoscopy for examining air passages

Maternity Services

Florida Hospital Altamonte offers a comprehensive range of maternity services.

  • family with babyThe unit includes 18 private rooms, birthing rooms, and two birthday suites ( large, home-like rooms).

  • Lactation services are available seven days a week, as well as 24-hour in-house anesthesia services.

    For critically ill infants, our maternity unit is back by a Level III Newborn intensive Care Unit at Florida Hospital Orlando. A transport team is available 24-hours a day to transport critically ill pediatric and neonatal patients.

Outpatient procedures are convenient and often economical options for patients who want to spend less time away from home and family. Florida Hospital Altamonte provides the following procedures in a safe environment:

Pain Medicine

The Pain Medicine Center at Florida Hospital Altamonte's Outpatient Surgery Plaza provides a comprehensive approach and treatment option to help individuals who suffer from chronic pain associated with injury or illness.

Patients are accepted in the Florida Hospital Pain Medicine Program through physician referral only. To schedule a patient call 407/303-2273 or fax 407/303-9627

  • Board-certified anesthesiologist, fellowship trained in the management of pain*, along with registered nurses and other professionals provide a high level of care for patients experiencing pain.

  • The Pain Medicine Center is integrated with

Radiology Services

The Radiology Department at Florida Hospital Altamonte offers a wide range of sophisticated, state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures within a healing type environment:

  • · General and fluoroscopic x-ray procedures for viewing the gall bladder, gastrointestinal tract and other internal organs

  • Three Computerized Tomography (CT) scanners for viewing internal organs in three-dimensional and cross-sectional images

  • SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography) tests for the liver, bone and parathyroid. This measures blood distribution and detects artery blockages.

  • Nuclear medicine tests for studying the anatomical structure and functioning of internal organs such as the thyroid, bones, lungs, liver, gallbladder and heart

  • New, state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)—uses radio frequency pluses to produce images in "slices"—much like CT.

  • Digital subtraction Angiography (DSA) for creating images of the blood vessels

  • Ultrasound

  • Mammography

Sleep Disorder Services

Sleepless in Seminole

Florida Hospital Altamonte is helping those with sleep disorders achieve more normal sleep patterns through the Center for Sleep Disorders. The center can help treat common sleep disorders such as:

  • Insomnia: the inability to sleep due to stress, breathing disorders, temporary pain, and misuse/overuse of sleeping pills


  • Narcolepsy: sudden and uncontrollable attacks of sleepiness during inappropriate times of the day

  • Apnea: periods of not breathing, as frequently as several hundred times during sleep due to blockage of the upper airway and diseases of the central nervous system

  • Parasomnias: somnambulism (sleep walking, nightmares, and night terrors)

  • Other disorders: seizures, bruxism (grinding of teeth) and other conditions that cause abnormal sleep patterns

    Admission Procedure

    You can be self- or physician-referred to the Florida Hospital Altamonte Center for Sleep Disorders. If you are referred by a physician, ask them to send any pertinent information that is less than six months old to the center. You will be asked to complete the following:

  • a questionnaire concerning your medical, psychological and sleep history. Which will be reviewed by an accredited panel of medical doctors which include neurologist, psychologists, pulmonary specialists and ENT (ear, nose, and throat) physicians

  • a consultation with a sleep specialist where a brief history and physical will be done along with orientation. Please call the Center between 6 am and 3:30 pm to schedule an appointment

  • Specialists will use the latest diagnostic equipment to record and monitor your sleep patterns, heartbeat activity, breathing and body movements.

Women's Medicine
