Space Jam

I very seldom have a Sabbath "off," but May 6 was one of those rare Saturdays when I was FREE. I chose to use it as a full day of just "walking around the garden with God."

I headed toward Titusville and the Merritt Island wildlife drive, hoping to see some birds, and maybe a brilliant red sunset. Since east highway 50 is not the prettiest part of the garden, I flew north on the freeway and then found a "little blue road" through the Sanford Historic District where someone has planted a block of antique shops.

Next time you visit Sanford take the first right after RUBYJUICE, and park under the RIVERHOUSE POTTERY sign. The sign alone is worth the trip and promises a store filled with wonders! Far more than just an "Artisan Gift Gallery," this is a wild museum of wonderfully useless art. Don't miss the BEAKED BIKE!

After standing on the street and shooting windows, I wandered east through Geneva, where I discovered Dan and Chris, the proud owners of "Lady Bug Daylilies." During May their fields are carpeted with thousands of blooming tetraploids, each blossom hand-grown and named. Daylilies like the BLUE EYED BLOND, BITE ME, SWEET COUNTRY LUVIN, and SPACE JAM, snared me for more than two hours. Good light, thousands of incredibly-beautiful flowers, brilliant colors, digital cameras, and most pleasant folks made this the highlight of my Sabbath.

Three SPACE JAM photos are on the Florida Hospital screensaver this week. If you'd like to download a personal copy, you'll find it at: http://homepage.mac.com/rduerksen/PhotoAlbum35.html

"Their colors are brightest in the early morning or late evening," Dan advises. "Come on back, and be sure to photograph the plants out by the bananas!"

I didn't get to Merritt Island, but that's typical of my Sabbaths. There's always more to see, more new friends to meet, and more relaxing to do with God. And I never get enough of it!

God made the Sabbath as a day for walking around with Him and Resting. I didn't really get anywhere last Sabbath. Just got peace. :)

"For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy." Exodus 20:11
