BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF FLORIDA AND ADVENTIST HEALTH SYSTEM REACH CONTRACT AGREEMENT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (January 3, 2003)-- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida (BCBSF) and Adventist Health System (AHS) today announced the signing of a contract agreement that allows the two companies to continue to meet the health care needs of Florida residents. The agreement follows several months of negotiations and is effective immediately for all AHS Florida Hospital facilities in Florida.

"Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida is pleased to have reached an agreement with AHS that will benefit our members, Florida Hospital patients and the entire community," said Kenneth G. Sellers, Group Vice President for BCBSF in Miami. "Our focus throughout the negotiating process has been on reaching an agreement that will provide our members with access to affordable health care choices."

"We are pleased that we are able to continue to serve the health care needs of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida members. Throughout the process we remained focused on trying to bring the negotiations to a successful conclusion." said Rich Reiner, Executive Vice President – AHS Florida Division.

The agreement is for all lines of BCBSF products including commercial HMO, PPO and PHS (Traditional) products.

AHS has seventeen hospitals in the state.
