Looking Out for You
Instructions for Day of Procedure
- Arrange in advance for a responsible person to stay with you during the procedure, and to drive you home afterward.
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment.

- DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING (including water, candy or gum) eight hours prior to your scheduled appointment.
- You may take scheduled medications with a few sips of water. NOTE: Let the nurse know if you are taking aspirin products or blood thinners.
- Leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing (low-heeled shoes for women).
About the Procedure
The Pain Medicine physician will explain the procedure in detail, its risks and benefits, and other alternative treatments as appropriate. You may ask questions at any time. Once you understand the procedure and decide to proceed, you will be asked to sign a consent form.
You will receive a call from the Pain Medicine Center prior to your visit to remind you:
- Of your appointment time.
- To not eat or drink for eight hours prior to your scheduled appointment, unless otherwise instructed by the pain medicine physician.
- To have a responsible person drive you home after your procedure.
- To recommend that a responsible person stay with you after your procedure.
Reporting Pain Concerns After Your Procedure

When you call to report pain concerns, the receptionist will take a message. Your message will be given to your Pain Medicine physician. If you feel your symptoms warrant a doctor's immediate attention, go to the Emergency Room nearest to you.
